Climate and Communities

Climate and Communities Initiative Workshop
May 15-16, 2018 • Portland, OR

The Nature Conservancy convened a Climate and Communities Initiative Workshop to support the Pacific Fishery Management Council’s development of a climate and communities initiative under the Council’s Fishery Ecosystem Plan. The Fisheries Forum provided agenda development and facilitation services.

Essential Fish Habitat

National Essential Fish Habitat Summit
May 17-19, 2016 • Annapolis, MD

The National Essential Fish Habitat Summit convened NOAA Fisheries and council habitat experts to explore opportunities and successful approaches for the effective implementation of EFH authorities. The EFH Summit was sponsored by the NOAA Fisheries Office of Habitat Conservation and the Office of Science & Technology. The Fisheries Forum coordinated the EFH Summit planning process and facilitated meeting discussions.

Quota Program Performance

Pacific Groundfish Quota Program Workshop
February 16-18, 2016 • Portland, OR

The Pacific Groundfish Quota Program Workshop, also known as Santa Rosa 3, convened industry members, fishery managers, and others to discuss the current state of the fishery and explore potential improvements to the program in advance of the Pacific Fishery Management Council’s 5-year IFQ program review. Workshop sponsors included industry organizations, NOAA Fisheries, and Environmental Defense Fund. The Fisheries Forum facilitated meeting discussions and prepared the meeting summary.

Strategic Science Plan

Northeast Fisheries Science Center Strategic Science Plan
Fall/Winter 2014-2015

The Fisheries Forum worked with Makers, Inc. to support stakeholder and staff engagement in the Northeast Fisheries Science Center’s development of the 2016-2021 Strategic Science Plan. The purpose of the Plan is to help NEFSC align staff and resources to address the region’s critical priorities. The Fisheries Forum’s role included leading conversations with partners and stakeholders, regional stakeholder workshops, and working sessions with science center staff.

Operational Guidelines and Best Practices

Operational Guidelines and Best Practices Workshop
August 19-21, 2014 • Seattle, WA

The National Operational Guidelines and Best Practices Workshop convened NOAA Fisheries and council staff to inform the development of revised Operational Guidelines, and explore council processes, best practices, challenges, and solutions across management regions. Workshop objectives were developed by the Council Coordination Committee. The Fisheries Forum assisted with the design and facilitation of workshop discussions.

Electronic Monitoring

National Electronic Monitoring Workshop
January 8-9, 2014 • Seattle, WA

The National Electronic Monitoring Workshop convened managers, experts, and stakeholders from across the country to advance the implementation of electronic monitoring technology for federally managed fisheries. The Fisheries Forum provided planning support and facilitated workshop breakout sessions.

Magnuson-Stevens Act Reauthorization

Managing Our Nation’s Fisheries 3
May 7-9, 2013 • Washington, DC

The Managing Our Nation’s Fisheries 3 (MONF3) conference was convened by the eight regional fishery management councils and hosted by the Pacific Fishery Management Council. The conference convened council, NOAA Fisheries, and other experts to address issues relevant to Magnuson-Stevens Act reauthorization. The Fisheries Forum organized and facilitated Session 2: Advancing Ecosystem-Based Decision Making, which included three topics: ecosystem effects and adapting to climate change, forage fish management, and integrating habitat considerations.
