At a Duke Climate Collaboration Symposium on sustainable infrastructure in March 2024, external partners shared insights during public events and then joined Duke faculty for a private workshop focused on designing new ISLE networks.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_button button_url=”https://nicholasinstitute.duke.edu/articles/new-global-initiative-leverages-virtual-communities-accelerate-sustainable-infrastructure” button_text=”LEARN MORE ABOUT ISLe” _builder_version=”4.25.1″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_button][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row column_structure=”1_2,1_2″ module_id=”climate-risk-insurance-sector” _builder_version=”4.25.1″ width=”100%” max_width=”100%” custom_margin=”|||” custom_padding=”0px|0|0px|” use_custom_width=”on” width_unit=”off” custom_width_percent=”100%” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.16″ custom_padding=”100px||100px|8%” custom_padding_tablet=”60px|10%|60px|10%” custom_padding_phone=”” custom_padding_last_edited=”on|tablet” global_colors_info=”{}” padding_tablet=”60px|10%|60px|10%” padding_last_edited=”on|tablet” custom_padding__hover=”|||” padding_phone=”60px|10%|60px|10%”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.16″ text_font=”|700||on|||||” text_text_color=”#988675″ text_font_size=”16px” text_letter_spacing=”1px” header_font=”||||||||” header_text_color=”#012169″ header_3_font=”|700||on|||||” header_3_text_color=”#988675″ header_3_font_size=”16px” header_3_letter_spacing=”1px” text_orientation=”right” background_layout=”dark” module_alignment=”right” custom_margin=”40px||20px|” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Highlight

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_divider color=”#988675″ divider_weight=”2px” _builder_version=”4.16″ max_width=”150px” module_alignment=”right” height=”2px” custom_margin=”|||” custom_padding=”|-60px||” custom_padding_tablet=”|0px||” custom_padding_last_edited=”off|desktop” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_divider][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.25.1″ text_font=”||||||||” text_line_height=”1.8em” header_font=”||||||||” header_2_font=”||||||||” header_2_font_size=”40px” header_2_line_height=”1.4em” header_3_font=”||||||||” text_orientation=”right” max_width=”710px” module_alignment=”right” text_orientation_tablet=”center” text_orientation_phone=”center” text_orientation_last_edited=”on|tablet” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]

Developing Purposeful Partnerships to Reduce Climate Risks

Duke scholars are working with leaders from the insurance and finance industries—both of which have unique capabilities to address risk—to identify how they can help communities counter climate threats.

In February 2024, the Nicholas Institute teamed with RESILE—a new university-wide research initiative on climate risk based in the Pratt School of Engineering—to host the inaugural Duke Climate Collaboration Symposium. Conversations over two days centered on how Duke can utilize its strengths and partnerships to stimulate novel approaches to climate risk in the private sector and scale up climate resilience efforts.

The symposium served as a launchpad for development of the Center for Innovation in Risk-analysis for Climate Adaptation and Decision-making (CIRCAD).
